![]() I know I already asked you your most memorable moment in your fighting career, but you have also trained as well as commentated. I didn't know Vernon extremely well like a lot of others but it seems from all indications that he was as much of a champion out of the ring as he was inside it. His passing has brought out so many personal stories from people and most of them seem to have the same common theme, that being what a great guy outside the ring he was. And he tells me he liked watching me, and he was very careful with these words, because I "didn't box like a white guy." I laughed when he said that, I knew what he meant, and I told him several times over the years that I was going to use that quote in my book. I had no idea he even knew me but there he was actually recalling specific fights he saw me in. This, combined with the quiet engine, means it’s deceptively easy to sneak above the speed limit, so keep an eye on that (digital) speedometer. Indeed, gear changes were largely imperceptible. It’s a rather smooth affair as well thanks to the car’s quick-shifting eight-speed Geartronic automatic transmission (the T6 trim comes with a six-speed auto). Still, getting up to highway speeds is surprisingly quick, with zero to 100 km/h times of 7.4 seconds in the 2.0L version and 6.1 seconds in the T6 trim. Most impressive is the the sharp, sculpted lights mounted to the liftgate. But this third-generation benefits from a nice makeover that includes a refreshed grille, handsome daytime running LEDs, sleeker lines, and an overall muscular appearance that fits with the car’s multi-usage appeal. Volvo really should make AWD available for the XC70 at all levels to truly back up the car’s rugged styling and justify the premium pricing. Many science sites and blogs post beautiful pictures of frozen bubbles but don’t explain what’s happening. It’s important to talk about the science behind what’s going on. That’s okay-you can still check out the ice crystals on the plate and the wisps of the frozen bubble that remain! Use a magnifying glass to examine the ice crystals more closely. Depending on the temperature of your freezer and the temperature of your kitchen, the bubble may form a hole and collapse almost as soon as you remove it from the freezer. Once the bubble is frozen, carefully remove it from the freezer and set it on the counter. You’ll need to check often, as it will pop soon after freezing. They advise blowing a large bubble carefully onto a plate and then putting it in the freezer for 5-8 minutes, then checking to see if it’s frozen. If you’re not in a cold climate, Home Science Tools has instructions on how to blow bubbles and then freeze them in your freezer, with photos. You can also do this experiment if you’re in a warmer climate. Sometimes half a bubble will remain like a jagged cup. Some will rip on tree branches and float away like tiny deflated balloons, instead of just disappearing as they pop the way regular bubbles do. ![]() ![]() They also will break or collapse instead of popping, often leaving crumpled pieces that look like cellophane or flimsy pieces of bubbles that float through the air. Kids will notice that the bubbles begin to form crystals as they freeze. Obviously, a better quality solution will have a better chance of holding up long enough to see results. You can use commercial bubble solution or homemade, and people have reported that both work about equally well. Typically, they will not react the way normal soap bubbles do at all. Watch how they react as they float, hit objects such as branches, and land on the ground. Also blow some bubbles up into the air, as high as you can so they have a lot of time to freeze before they land. Watch as it slowly forms crystals and freezes. It’s best to pick a location that’s somewhat sheltered from the wind, as the bubbles are likely to quickly float away on the wind, making them harder to observe.Ĭarefully blow a large bubble and catch it on the end of the wand. You may want to bring a camera, too, to capture some of the images. Just gather up some bubble wands and bubble solution, and dress the kids warmly. Another similarity can be seen in the placement of the date window at 4:30, echoing the A386 and it’s date window placement. The inspiration for the dial is seen in the multi-coloured subdials in silver, anthracite and petrol blue. Since 1969, the El Primero has been well ahead of its time, with its integrated construction and high beat rate for chronometric performance, but has largely remained unchanged since then. Arguably, the last great hurdle for watchmaking in the 20th century was the automatic chronograph, and no brand is more synonymous with this than Zenith. In these 200 years, we have seen the dominance of the pocket watch overthrown by the practical need for wristwatches in the mid 20th century, and since that time, the development of the mechanical wristwatch sky-rocketed until the advent of the Quartz Crisis. Delving deeper, we find an industry that is steeped in tradition, with the production of fine watches at scale only really coming to fruition in the last 200 years. They look cool, too.On the surface, the watch world is one of intrigue – glitz, glamour, prestige and just a touch of “bling-bling”. Subtle tweaks like these give real depth to the display. Each watch has its classic Arabic numerals deeply engraved in the dials, exposing contrasting metals to match the cases (and the hands too in the gold versions). The yellow gold has a fetching vertically brushed grey surface and yellow gold hands, while the rose gold comes in a grainy finish anthracite.
